This article appeared on October 10th, 2010. You can read the whole article at this web site URL immediately below. To save you time the article talks about an area on the island of Ambergris Caye not very far from Palm Bay Club. This area and I quote from the article: "is located about 6 miles south of the world famous Rocky Point, where the Coral Reef touches the shore, this area is about 3 miles from a suggested expansion area for San Pedro.
If the plan is approved and implemented, an existing airstrip will be expanded into a new International Airport and a new planned community built to allow San Pedro to expand. The Mexican and Belize Governments have agreed to cooperate in hard surfacing the road from the present bridge in San Pedro all the way to Cancun. This project could begin in the very near future which would cause property values in this area to sky-rocket!"
So this is confirmation that the planned road and expected International airport will make the property values in Palm Bay Club sky-rocket also since the road that is close by and the airport will service those living in beautiful Palm Bay Club.
Belmopan, 17 August 2009.
The Embassy of Mexico informs that on 15 August, the Mayor of the municipality of Othon P. Blanco (Chetumal), Mr. Andres Ruiz-Morcillo, and Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviación and Culture, Hon. Manuel Heredia, signed a Letter of Intent in order to promote the construction of a road between San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, and Xcalak (within the Municipality of Othon P. Blanco), Mexico. The objective of the Letter of Intent is to boost the tourism industry in the Chetumal Bay and the north of Belize, including Ambergris Caye. In particular, Mexico and Belize will seek to connect San Pedro with Xcalak (Mexico) and Mahahual with a road from where an already existing access will make possible the connection with Chetumal or Tulum and Cancun. The document was signed before the undersecretary of Tourism of the State of Quintana Roo, Mr. Armando Alvarez-Gonzalez, the Director of the Port Authority of Quintana Roo, Mr. Javier Zetina-Gonzalez and the Ambassador of Mexico, H.E. Luis Manuel Lopez-Moreno.
Likewise, the Mayor of Othon P. Planco announced the project of a water taxi, which will link Chetumal and Xcalak with Belize. The future water taxi would depart from the “Muelle Fiscal” –the Customs Dock Facility in Chetumal - with a stop at Sarteneja and San Pedro and arrival at Xcalak. The run will be operated by the Belizean company San Pedro Belize Express Water Taxi.
This service will allow visitors from Chetumal to travel to San Pedro and Xcalak and from there to visit Mahahual and Chinchorro (Mexico). It will also allow Belizeans to travel easily from San Pedro to Chetumal. The new water taxi will benefit the local population on both sides of the border, it will boost the tourism industry and it will promote the economic development of the border area of Mexico and Belize.
In Chetumal, Mexican officials boarded the boat for the familiarization trip, which showed the route of the upcoming water taxi service. They travelled to Sarteneja, where Hon. Heredia hosted them and the signing of the Letter of Intent took place.

Belize and Mexico have reached general agreement on their intention to build a road that will link San Pedro, the capital of Ambergris Caye, with Ixcalac, the neighbouring Mexican coastal town on the other side of a small stretch of sea.
The paved, two-lane road is to be financed entirely by the Mexican government, according to a reliable Embassy source, and is to run, in the first phase of its construction, from San Pedro to Bacalar Chico, a community on the Mexican border on Ambergris Caye. The Mexican government will also install an Immigration/Customs checkpoint there.
Belize and Mexico have also agreed on a scheduled water taxi to link San Pedro, Ixcalac and Chetumal, to be operated by the San Pedro/Belize Water Taxi Express, a Belizean enterprise.
Letters of intent giving formal recognition to these two projects were signed Monday by Belize’s Minister of Tourism, Manuel Heredia, and the Mayor of Chetumal, His Honour, Andres Ruíz Morcillo, and between Minister Heredia and Mexican officials Sr. Armando Alvarez Gonzalez, Under-Secretary of Tourism for the State of Qunitana Roo, Sr. Javier Zetina-Gonzalez, Director of the Port Authority for the State of Quintana Roo and Ambassador Luis Manuel Lopez-Moreno, Mexico’s idefatigable diplomatic representative to Belize.
The water taxi service will begin almost immediately, and on Monday Mexican Officials boarded a boat which showed them the route from Chetumal to Ixcalac to San Pedro.
Minister Heredia took his guests to Sarteneja, a resort and fishing village on the northern coast of Corozal where they had lunch and signed the second letter of intent.
The water taxi will be a blessing for the people of Ixcalac, who will now have easy access to Chetumal and to San Pedro. Tourists and others in Mahahual, many of whom arrive by cruise ship, already have road access to Ixcalac, and Chetumal, but will now find it a lot easier to visit Chetumal and San Pedro through this sea link.
Mayor Ruiz Morcillo pointed out that communities on both sides of the border still share family ties, though now separated by political frontiers. The projected bilateral initiatives should bring about greater unity and cooperation, he said.
The land link to Ixcalac is something San Pedranos have dreamed of for more than half a century. Now that the northern sector of Ambergris Caye is bustling with development, it is believed the road project, which at this stage is just a plan, will quickly become a reality.
The purpose of the letter of intent is to boost the tourism industry in the Chetumal Bay area - a coastal tourist nucleus in the making involving Sarteneja, and San Pedro for Belize, Ixcalác and Mahahual, Tulúm and Cancún for Mexico.
By the first agreement. Mexico and Belize will also seek to connect San Pedro and Ixcalac by road.
Ixcalac, Mahahual and Chetumal are already connected by road. Adding San Pedro to the mix will mean that tourists in Tulúm and Cancün will be able to visit San Pedro by a road link through Ixcalac. From San Pedro the can fly to any part of Belize they choose .
Belizeans will also be able to travel easily to San Pedro and from San Pedro by sea to Chetumal. With adequate scheduling this can be accomplished in less time than by autobus, but at a higher cost.
The Mexican Embassy in Belize made the announcement about the road and the new sea link last Monday in Belmopan.
